Dr Terry Spokes is a highly experienced clinical psychologist with a background in leading addiction treatment services across Europe and Asia. He currently serves as the Clinical Director of The Winslow, Singapore’s first private, residential centre specialising in addiction treatment. Dr Terry works with adults presenting with a wide range of mental health difficulties and has particular expertise in the psychological treatment of addiction, trauma, and neuropsychological conditions.
Having worked alongside people facing a range of mental health challenges for over 20 years, Dr Terry believes it is a natural part of the human experience to have times when we flourish and times when we struggle. He has seen how creating the space to step back and reflect can lead to valuable insights into the patterns at play in our lives — helping to heal the hurts that may be limiting us and uncovering the strengths and resources that support growth. With this awareness, people can move forward in ways that feel more aligned with who they are and the life they want to live.

Prior to graduating from the University of Oxford’s doctoral training course in 2010, Dr Terry worked in a research capacity at the Institute of Psychiatry in London. During his clinical psychology training, he completed a specialist placement in a traumatic stress service, where he developed a passion for helping individuals heal from traumatic experiences. His doctoral dissertation explored the use of eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) as a form of post-incident support for nurses who had experienced workplace assault. Since qualifying, Dr Terry has undertaken further advanced training in the treatment of trauma, including somatic approaches to trauma therapy.
After qualifying as a clinical psychologist, Dr Terry worked across a range of neurorehabilitation services in the UK, conducting neuropsychometric assessments and providing neuropsychological rehabilitation. He later moved into the addiction treatment sector, holding leadership roles in residential services across Europe and Asia, where he focused on clinical direction, service development, and aligning treatment practices with best practice guidelines.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr Terry regularly provides supervision and training to psychologists and mental health professionals, speaks at conferences, contributes to media features, and remains actively involved in research and publication. In 2022, he was honoured to collaborate with the World Health Organisation (WHO) on the 'Changemakers in Health' project.
