Specialising in difficulties experienced by children and adolescents (aged 8-21), Rachel is a perfect fit for young clients seeking therapy, particularly for anxiety, depression, autism spectrum disorders and socioemotional difficulties, including challenges with social competencies, self-regulation, social problem-solving, friendships, and behavioural issues.

As a third culture kid who found her home in Singapore fifteen years ago, Rachel has a nuanced understanding of the challenges facing young people in Singapore’s uniquely demanding environment and is experienced in helping clients from diverse cultural backgrounds.

  • Master of Counselling, Monash University
  • Bachelor of Psychology (Honours), University of Bath
  • Certified in Crisis Response, National Organisation for Victim Assistance

Rachel obtained her Master of Counselling from Monash University and holds a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) from the University of Bath. Before joining the Promises Family, Rachel was employed as a Behavioural Therapist, working with young children presenting with autism and other cognitive and developmental delays. Throughout her training, she has undergone specialised courses in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), social thinking, and is certified in crisis response.

Rachel believes in a client-centred approach, placing the client at the heart of therapy and tailoring her therapeutic style to the unique needs of the young person seeking help. She understands the importance of cultivating an empathetic and strong therapeutic relationship, creating a sense of safety and trust with her clients. Rachel utilises a strengths-based approach; too often emphasis can be placed on problems that need to be solved, neglecting the strengths and resources the client already has to offer—a strengths-based approach brings these inner resources to the forefront. Rachel makes particular efforts to aid her clients in employing their learning outside of the therapy room in order to facilitate enduring changes and improvements seen in all aspects of their lives.

In her spare moments, Rachel likes to indulge her creative side—be that singing, playing various musical instruments, or getting stuck in some creative writing. The first aspiration she ever had was to publish a book, and she is still hoping to achieve that goal today.
